2nd and 3rd day in Canada

We are now in the “resort town” Whistler. The town is most known for its amazing alpine areas and as host town for the Winter Olympics in 2010. There are about two million tourists visiting Whistler every year. In the winter for the great skiing and snowboarding possibilities, and in the summer for mountain biking. And that’s the reason we were going to try mountain biking.

We arrived from Vancouver two days ago. We had planned to go by train from North Vancouver to Whistler railway station, but it is no longer available. So we ended up with renting a car instead. The drive was 1 hour and 50 minutes long. We arrived the hotel around 2:30 pm, we chose Aava Whistler Hotel because it’s close to the mountain we were going to the next day.

We woke up early the first day, because we were so excited! The weather was perfect, not too cold and there were no clouds in the sky. When we reached the mountain, we had to choose which course was right for us. We chose “novice” for people who have little or no experience with mountain biking. We paid only 108$ per person, for a package including guide, bike and ticket for the park.

And when we met our guide we were shocked, because it was Jack from Vancouver! He recognized us as well, and we started to laugh because the situation was so comic!

He started with teaching us some basic techniques. And then we were supposed to bicycle in the rough terrain. It was really hard not to fell off the bike! But after a couple of hours we had improved, and it started to become fun :) We had a great time, with a lot of laughing and biking. Definitely a success and it was lovely to meet Jack again! Bicycling is funny when you learn how to control the bike, but it is kind of scary too.

At the end of the day we saw a woman who had fell of her bike. She had huge pains, so she were brought to the hospital. Lucky for her that all healt care in Canada is free!

Today we saw something that its unique with Whistler. Lotte was standing by the window, and suddenly she started to shout: "Come, come, come and see" So we ran to the window and we could see a black bear in the street! The black bears here is almost docile, and they eat human food. And the bear outside the window went to an empty car, and started to open the door! The bear grabbed the food, and ran back into the forest! What an experience!

Tomorrow we are going to go back to Vancouver after a wonderful weekend here in Whistler!
